This novel has a lot of surprising twists and turns to the very end of the book, with fascinating imagery of locales, including the tranquil setting of a small upstate New York college town in the Catskills, the magnificence of the New York Metropolitan Opera House, contrasted by the jarring landscape of New York City streets dotted by strippers and prostitutes with their individual stories. The story about one particular character in the book--a Vietnam American war hero turned street bum--is particularly poignant. And then there are the two mythical leprechauns who portray the good and evil that can be exemplified by us all at one point or another. Integrated throughout the novel are thought-provoking ideas that cause the readers to reflect on contemporary societal morals and values, as well as our stewardship of planet earth and all its inhabitants. The author also exposes readers to little-known scientific and historical facts in an entertaining way that suggests his wealth of knowledge. |
